The pandemic has brought so much uncertainty. Our lives have been disrupted, our plans cancelled, our futures unknown. Some of us are "lucky" and our troubles amount (in reality) to mere inconveniences. But for many, the impact is grave. Hunger. Homelessness. Unemployment. Illness. Tonight, 1.6 billion people in the world will go to sleep without a safe, decent place in which to shelter in these uncertain times. One point six billion. Wow.
Most of you know that I am passionate about supporting the mission of Habitat for Humanity, which is centered on providing safe, decent and affordable shelter to those in need in the US and around the world. I have seen first hand how access to decent, affordable shelter can have a significant positive impact on the health, academic achievement and security of families. Perhaps you have traveled with me, or shared in the joys of this work through the photos and stories I've shared. Many of you have made financial contributions that have given families hope. Together, we have made a global difference.
We have reached a critical point in time. Travel has come to a halt and volunteers are no longer able to travel the globe. There is no timeline for when it will be safe to get back to this work. But families are still in need - now more than ever - and even if we cannot be there to support them in person, we can still make a difference in their lives.
I've created this fundraising campaign because I believe that together, we can help more families build or improve a decent place to call home, creating a foundation of strength and stability so they can flourish. I invite you to join me by making a contribution or joining my fundraising team and sharing the message with those close to you in order to increase our impact and help even more families.
Every contribution – no matter the size – will have a life-changing impact on families in need of a decent, affordable shelter. Funds raised through this campaign will provide broad support for the mission of Habitat for Humanity through their Global Impact Fund. This fund was created to:
1. Design and replicate innovate programs to serve more low-income families
2. Build the capacity of a network of US affiliates and national organizations
3. Cover other costs necessary to ensure that Habitat fulfills it's mission with excellence.
