In this special edition of Shelter Scoop, we kick off the 37th Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project hosted by Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood in Charlotte, North Carolina. This week, more than 1,000 volunteers will work alongside future homeowners to help build 27 affordable homes.

Q City Metro (Charlotte, North Carolina): Plato Price housing project to be completed next summer In April, CEOs from across Charlotte came together to build parts of homes at Habitat for Humanity of the Charlotte Region’s Meadows at Plato Price 39-home development. With help from the Carter Work Project, rather than the homes being completed in two years, they will be done in a year and a half with an expected completion by fall 2024. (4/21/23)
NPR Charlotte (Charlotte, North Carolina): Women volunteers help build a home in west Charlotte Ahead of Mother’s Day, a group of women volunteers came together for Habitat for Humanity of the Charlotte Region’s Women Build program, where they framed a home for single mother Katie and her three children. The Women Build program's first recipient, Jane, was on the build site to help with construction of the home located in the Meadows at Plato Price development. (5/12/23)
The Charlotte Post (Charlotte, North Carolina): A new chapter for community of Habitat neighbors In August, Habitat for Humanity of the Charlotte Region held a welcome home celebration for the first seven homeowners that moved into The Meadows at Plato Price, which is part of the 2023 Carter Work Project. Habitat’s Money Matters Program made it possible for Lapri, one of the first seven homeowners, to achieve her dream of homeownership. (8/10/23)
WCNC Charlotte (Charlotte, North Carolina): ‘Amazing’: Single mom who is legally blind gets her dream home through Habitat for Humanity Brianna, a single mother who is legally blind and has macular dystrophy, will be moving into one of the 39 homes at the Meadows at Plato Price development. She has been putting in sweat equity hours and is looking forward to her children being able to play in a safe area. (8/21/23)

WCNC Charlotte (Charlotte, North Carolina): Jimmy Carter’s dream will soon become reality in this Charlotte neighborhood The Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project started 40 years ago, when the Carters led a group of volunteers to build affordable housing in New York. In 1987, the project came to Charlotte to build 14 homes in the Optimist Park area and over 35 years later, the project has returned to the region to build 27 affordable homes in west Charlotte.
