Throughout the developing world, too many women are denied the opportunities and stability that land ownership provides.


Percentage of women, on average, who report owning land individually: Niger - 9%; Peru - 13%; Honduras - 14%; Ethiopia - 15%; Tanzania - 16%; Nicaragua - 20%; Bangladesh - 23%; Haiti - 24%. INDIA: Women who do own land and a home: 16% reported psychological violence and 7% reported physical violence. Women who don't own land and a home: 84% reported psychological violence and 49% reported physical violence. NEPAL: When a mother owns land, the chance of her child being severely underweight is 50% lower than a mother who doesn't. BRAZIL: Issuing land titles has been shown to reduce child labor 28%.
